The research project "Other Ways" gave rise to a series of illustrations for Science Notes Magazin, which publishes two issues a year, each built around a specific topic and its own unique design.

Issue 17 was themed "Floating" (Schweben in German) in cooperation with Literaturhaus Stuttgart, so every illustration conveys a sense of floating. The words and their corresponding materials were drawn from the articles themselves.

Every material asks for a specific approach in hand sketching to build a good base for the follow up AI-generation. And iterative process where re-sketching and re-prompting are part of the workflow.

The sketching process varied considerably: full-color drawings for clouds, outline drawings for glass, center-line drawings for the gymnastic ribbon, and a combination of both approaches for pigment powder piles.

The illustrations were further developed by Christian Angele, who turned them into real 3D objects and accompanying animations. The poet and sound artist Jörg Pieringer contributed short voice-overs to them. The animations can be experienced through the printed magazine, designed by Sandra Teschow using the App Artivive.
